Remember watching this on Friday, was absolute brilliant! Think Steve Coogan was right in everything he said, it certainly made Paul McMullan look like a complete and utter bellend....

I thought it was a bit redundant to be honest, of course the other guy is there to sell newspapers, that's his job. It's not a public service.

The Hitler line was naff too.

Not sure how it was 'redundant', granted it's pretty obvious that an editors job (Colin Mylers in this case) is to sell as many newspapers as possible but it doesn't make it right for the newspaper to 'hack' into peoples voicemail for stories that aren't in the publics interest. Paul McMullan was simply brushing it off and spouting cack about free speach to try and give it some credibility, which is just laughable.

And it's also driven by market forces.

Those tricks mean the buying public end up buying.

Same reason shit TV is so popular, reality crap, talent show crap, people like it.

No one even really outright objects to phone tapping, either in that interview or generally, it's just because they went too far that they're in trouble.

When they did it to people having affairs or involved in corruption I'm not sure the moral brigade were quite as vocal.

I like that Coogan and others have come out against the paper calling them morally bankrupt and other things. But I also think it's a bit moot when it's been going on for so long and will continue to do so for as long as the country like sleeze.
