I sold my old cupra a while back. Sent the V5 off about a week or so after selling it as I was busy and went to the back of my mind.

I got the acknowledgment letter through the post, read it and threw it away. Have enough shite cluttering my house up!

Got a letter from the DVLA quite a few weeks later saying they hadn't revived the V5 from me and they are gonna charge me a fine. They asked me to send back a statement for my side of the story so I did. Got home today and another letter had arrived. They still want to fine me as I cant prove I got the letter of acknowledgment.

Thing is I dont understand is that I saw the Cupra driving round a week after I sold it and before I sent the V5 off with a private plate on it. Surely he couldn't of changed the plate untill I sent the V5 away?

HELP PLEASE

what do you want people to do? all you can do is tell them exactly what happened, explained they sent you the acknowledgement and you threw it away as they had already confirmed it to you and you felt the need not to keep it, ask them to check their records for letters they have sent out to your address and they might still have it on file

Why do you need to prove you got the letter of acknowledgment when you don't need to act on it??

Its a letter saying thanks for letting us know you're not the registered keeper of the car anymore.

I would call them up tbh.Sending letters back and forth will just be a waste of time.

This has happened to me twice, once I went along with it and paid because I didn't want to make a fuss because I didn't think it would be worthwhile.

More recently I had one and replied to tell them I had done everything properly, called them to tell them and followed that up with a letter with all the dates etc. and never heard anything more.

Learn your lesson and keep paperwork like that, I've got all those stupid letters from every car and motorbike I've sold (roughly 5 letters now), so if there is ever any come back, I can produce the letter with 'Fuck You' written all over it.

Hope not it was months ago

Their systems are clearly shit and you can use that your advantage. That combined with the postal service being potentially a great excuse, there's no reason why anyone should be fined for not completing DVLA paperwork.

I threw it away cause I saw it as "ok great. Thanks for wasting paper, time and the postal service's time"

I got one the other day, 18 months after selling the car.

It was a "failure to notify us of the disposal of the vehicle" letter.

Quite clearly the vehicle is still alive and on the road, seen it plenty of times now.

I just sent the letter back to them with a 1p sellotaped to it and informed them I didnt own the car anymore but here's a penny for your thoughts.

Never heard anything else from them.
