Can anyone advise?

Basically work are getting us cars and i've just offered £3200 for my old 07 plate Ford Connect with 50k on the clock to convert into a small camper van and tow the Corsa

If you're making it a camper, insure it as a camper. Mine is with Highway. The equivalent lorry as a lorry is a few grand.

we will be looking at van insurance now as we have just bought an iveco daily xlwb crew cab

looks a bit like the a teams van atm so that will be getting changed when we pick it up

Andrew, if this is real I suggest you don't buy it, assuming it's a SWB, the load space is just over 5ft 9 long which isn't going to be comfy as a camper. You'd need to find a light trailer and have the van near enough empty to keep within the weight limits when towing which I guess would also cock up the 'camper' idea as I expect the 'camper' is planned to be used as accommodation for trackdays etc. but the extra weight of the camper equipment would likely cause you to be overweight.

In summary, buy something suitable rather than the first thing available which is actually useless.

drive the corsa and use a tent.... sorted and saves you £3k

Is it because of business use ?, as my van was cheap to insure but obviously wasn't driving it for company use

I dont use it for business, so its even more frustrating! Got worse when I wanted to move the Polo policy over to the van, flux said I couldnt do that because I wanted a van policy and all this shit. So after aload of moaning and getting no where I got my 7 days grace from VW and spoke to the chaps at flux at PVS and they managed to move my policy over (so I didnt loose my ncb I had earned within that year) and didn't charge me the admin fee as I bummed that craig guy who organises their shows. Cost me around £150 in the end.

I put my van in my Dads name and put the policy in his name with me as named driver, was still £800 I had to pay for the insurance

That's with telling them it was for personal use only, ridiculous. I'd just get an estate or something and lay the back seats down to sleep in
