I'm a little baffled by this, i know gm recommend 10w40 semi, but castrol say 5w30 edge fully synthetic while shell recommend 5w40 synthetic?

Surely these must be ok or they would get there pants pulled down when engines sieze / go bang?

Thing is i have 50 odd litres of 5 w 40 at home so wounderd if it would be ok or would just knacker my new set of tappets?

I always go with vauxhall 10w40 oil can't go wrong.

i can sometimes get castrol 10/40 or 15/40 really cheap for 4L. £8 or £9 iirc

probs not the best stuff to use though

5w 40 will be fine, if not better than 10w 40 at lower temps.

Castrol and Shell recommend those because they are more expensive.

15-40 castrol or genuine gm stuff, asda do castrol 10-40 and 15-40 4l bottles for £10 but you need about 4.5l for an xe lol i get 5l of genuine gm oil for £10 so just go with that now
