head was done, it was fine before the gasket went
I've now replaced, rings, shells etc bottom end is all built up from new parts, and a 2nd hand bottom end as one of the piston's was ovaled.
Now it's massivley burning oil
Every seal and gasket is new, new shells, rings, pistons, gaskets, stem seals, valves.
Anyone know what could be making it burn oil now?

you getting any smoke from the exhaust? mines was going through oil with no obvious signs.

Aye it's burning it.
It's quite fuelly smelling too though.
Hell of a lot of smoke from it.
Now blanked the egr and checked all the breathers, vacuum's
No joy.

did you re hone the bore when the engine was refreshed?

Bores have been honed
used 5w40 as a kinda runthrough
Started it, ran it for a bit and dropped it, now have 10w40
But it's a lot of smoke, not a little
We're beginning to think its fuel now,
when I remove the plugs there's liquid down there, but it cannot be oil passing the new rings/pistons
Today I blanked the egr, tried a different fuel rail and fpr
pretty stumped though with this one.

Couldn't be a faulty seal or gasket, or been damaged when re-assembling it?

it's had new gaskets everytime.
And it wont be any of them damaged.
Semi synthetic oil is being used.
It's too much smoke for just using the wrong oil
It's a freshly built engine, I've done a compression test and it's showing 210 across all 4 cylinders.
I'm stumped

It will show decent comp as its got oil in the bores.
Were the bores measured after honing to be sure they are still within tolerance for standard 1.6 pistons? They could be slightly oversized and thus causing oil to piss past the rings.
Also, How was it run in?

this exactly if burning oil the oil will create a seal when compression testing maybe overcooked it when honing ?

Stripped it again.
Measured old block and new block,
Turns out new block has been bored out by .50 but the rings were standard.
Pistons were oversize too.
I always thought the oil scraper ring didn't look right.
4th rebuild, maybe get it to start without smoke this time

Easy mistake but could have been avoided by a quick size check. I would of measured it all anyway just to be sure its within tollerance.
