Since forever, not sure how long. But it doesn't get checked. All they check is whether the boot opens and shuts properly.

Thats news to me.

I always thought that if it was there they had to test it, and if it was flat/bald it would be at least an advisory.

Spare wheel is not a requirement for an MOT, surprising really as you would think it comes in to it. You don't even need one in the car.

Yeah ive always taken them out if its bald or punctured.

Bonus.

Yeah some cars don't even have a spare wheel.I just thought since it was there, they tested it.

i thought it was if it has one it gets tested and needs to be legal if it doesnt it doesnt matter

Nope, doesn't even get looked at. there's a few daft things, your speedo doesn't need to be working for example. As long as the correct lights come on and go off. Another daft rule imo.

if they cant test anything including seatbelts ie seats being down, full of shit etc then they wont test it at all

spare wheel isnt and never has been part of the Mot,

and the speedo is part of the Mot as of january 2012

My mate doesnt have a spare wheel as his wheel well was cut out. He said the MOT tester was well arsey about him not having a spare wheel and im sure he got an advisory for it.
