Alright all.

Just stripped the 3rd bedroom in my 1930s house and there's a fairly large vent in the wall. At somepoint someone has tried to cover it (badly) with abit of board.

What is the vent for as none of the other bedrooms have one. Am I ok to block it off completely as I want to plaster over it?

Could just be an air brick or may have been a flue from a boiler if it was ever housed there? If you have trickle vents on your windows it's pretty much redundant i'd say.

Sporting some 1930s lamp shade as well lol.

Probably from a large extract fan which has been removed at some point.

Well I'm going to board it over when I plaster. Just seems strange as it's quite large and don't think there's ever been a flue or anything in there, still wouldn't mind knowing what it's for though

Whole house was proper old style when I moved in, only way I could afford a decent place with a garage/garden was to get my hands dirty keeps me busy though

Check on the other other side see if there is an OE air brick usually two courses high.

It will be from the days of no heating and the door would be shut, so that is allow condensation to escape back in the days of ice on the inside of the window.

Block it, i would put a thinkness of brick in also if there is a gap as the thin skin would be a cold due to thickness.

Yep outside is an original air brick, has never been messed with. Your correct about the heating as the house didn't have it fitted when it was built. Cheers for the advice
