Luckely if it was a coupe its only £20 for the 2 seals per side FROM BMW....unlike VW who are useless nobs.

It's the high powered (i.e 2.8 or above) E46 models that could suffer from this problem, I think they had to be strengthened to stop the sub frames from ripping out.

*edit: listen out for worn diffs and any noises from the rear brakes. There's a disc protector cover for the rear brakes which rots out due to shit being thrown up under the car. Once this plate goes it'll take the handbrake shoes (or pads, or whatever they are) out with it and it's a bit of a pain in the arse to sort it out.

Not with the six cylinders they're not, at least I don't think so anyhow.
The 2.5 is fantastic when you welly it through the gears, nice smooth power curve and just the right soundtrack.

The seals are probably hugely expensive. The front hood seal is something like £250

I need mine replacing as although they don't leak they are very noisy and require weekly gummi-pledging

It's usually fine but if it rains the squaking comes back

So I do it as an when usually once a couple of weeks sometimes twice in a week. Takes about 2mins so not much of a pain. The seals where almost brittle when I started they are so flexible now
