Do they fit properly right up to the car sills, or is there a small gap which has to be filled in?

there will all ways be a small gap unless u blend them to the bodywork like me u probably can not afford to spend 500-600 quid on a full side respray so i got the bodyshop to put a neat line of sealent round the arches an along the sill which hides the gap nicely
