Anyone know where there is somewhere? Drivving up early hours and dont really wanna fork out 12 quid at the services to stop. Just want somewhere i can kip in the car for a few hours which isnt a layby right next to a live carriageway ideally. All of the services seem to have 2 hour free parking limits. can cars go in truck stops and are they free?

There are a lot of laybys on the a50 if you detour that way, about an 1 hour or so from ema at stoke right up to the airport. I'm thinking you mean further away than that tho?

Tamworth services has the sign for 2 hour parking but there is a little layby seconds from it which is quiet and free. saying that, the actually service station is ok. i've slept there before and never got charged, and i live 2 minutes from it. it's about 23 mile to the airport.

a50 is a bit out of the way and think there are roadworks by j23a m1. yeah i was thinking tamworth but looked on website and it said two hours. guessing its not anpr then. i'll look for that layby by there then

Theres a business park next door to the airport, on the right hand side as you come into the airport from the A42/M1/A50

theres a little service road right at the end of the runway thats not used and the flights would have stopped by that time. Really quiet but 10 secs off the main road.

Had been out on the piss, left my car there when i met my mate so decided to stay with it 
TOM, their is no anpr there mate so you're good to go. the motorway is all closed up at night, only thing open is the cafe, toilets and petrol station.
