started my new job in august and i had a p60 so i started on a tax code. this financial year i have earned less than £6k so under the limit so far. i have paid NI since i started but have paid no tax.

is this right?

Its a bit of a stringy question without knowing actual numbers.

However, earnings over something like 110 quid a week will be NI'd. The current NI threshold is lower than the income tax one so possible it is correct.

Are you querying paying NI?
Because no matter what I would always try and contribute to that. If you dont then your not entitled to a pension come retirement!

always handy to keep NI payments up in case you ever end up out of work, if the ni payments are down you cant claim any kind of benefit or help.

i'm questioning why i haven't started paying any tax on my earnings yet.

since august i have been payed about £4k

it depends what youre earning. i think on paye its worked out as weekly pay * 52 - allowance and then an annual tax which is then taken off. if you get me?

if your going to earn less than £7400 (approx) then you wont pay any tax

Yeah, anything under £7470 unless youi have any other taxable benefits
