Going to install Ubuntu 11.10 on the spare PowerMac and Acer netbook I've got here, see what they're like on both.
PowerMac is just for fun, but the netbook I want to use something other than XP on there.

OSX on the netbook
Be interested in how Ubuntu runs on the G4 though. I've been scouting ebay for G5's

Just in the process of going through the Acer eRecovery Management on the netbook making recovery DVDs of XP and the other stuff that's on there in case I want to put it back to factory.
Do you reckon I could get OS X to run on the netbook? It's an Acer Aspire One.
Leopard ran "ok" on the G4 from what I remember, but I reckon Ubuntu should be quicker?
I was looking at prices of uses Sonnet Tempo PCI SATA cards for it, x 1 million! One for a PC is only a few quid FFS

BTW Dom - you talking about G5s reminded me that Will (brother in law) has got a spare one, could always ask if he wants to get rid of it as he uses a MacBook for his audio/DJing these days.
He might want to keep the HDDs from it though. The G4 was actually from him originally

Ubuntu on PPC is nothing special, hardly anything works, bit of a waste of time. You need it on x86.

OSX Lion - home laptop
iOS5 - mobile 'phone
Windows XP - work laptop (my choice as upgrading to Win7 means taking on Office 2010 and I'm not ready to let go of my toolbars yet )

Win.7 at home but XP at work, fo rnow got the best of both worlds (imo). As soon as I upgrade to a better PC at work (current one is only running 448mb/RAM ) it'll all be on Windows 7.

Going from Office XP at home to 2007 at work was weird as hell, but once I got used to it I prefer it now

Office 2010 is quality, much much better than the previous versions. Word and Excel only take like 1-2 seconds to load on my laptop as well for some reason!

Looks like 5v PCI cards aren't usable on G5's which kind of puts a downer on getting a G5 for my old 001 protools rig
So a G4 it is Just a case of seeing if it's worth getting the 1.25GHz MDD (last model i believe) or go with the dual 1.42GHz (p58?).
Do a google on your Acer for OSX but i don't see why not. Just a case of burning Leopard/Snow Leopard to DVD or USB and booting it using a modified boot disc.

WTF is a G6? If you're talking about a Gulfstream then it's a G650
