To be fair he's not feeding it any 1080p sources. Xbox can do 1080p but I think most games are 720p.

i have a 50 inch plasma in the loving room.. it wieghs a tonnes.. takes 2 poeple to get it onto the wall and throws out alot of heat.. but i o dont care... it gives a clear picture and has never given any trouble in the 5 years ive had it...
i went out last week and bought a 51 plasma for the beddroom.. its significantly lighter.. i was able to lift it onto the wall bracket by myself... the main reason for choosing the plasma is that it was cheapper that any of the led/lcd ones i seen.

I got an LG 42" LED today from Comet for £500.
Really pleased with it but i was going from an old 28" old style fat back telly so anything would have been better.

not on a personal level, but what you posted states its not true that a plasma uses significantly more power. nearly 50% more is a significant amount though, insignificant would be a couple of percent. regardless of how those figures translate into cost.

You can't just take it out of context like that, because it suits your argument! 
If we were talking 1 W vs 3 W it would be three times the power consumption and STILL an insignificant amount. No matter the percentage.

I got my lg50" plasma before i got my ps3.
For tv & blurays its perfect, never noticed the heat :/ picture is spot on once i got the settings right.
Though if i knew i was going to get a ps3 i'd have got a lcd tv as the burn in on things like gt5 etc is pretty bad after prolonged use.
Its heavy, but i can lift it, though i only moved it once, onto a new stand. And got an energy meter, tv hardly uses any power, in comparision to other things i use on a daily basis like oven, kettle, microwave, spot lights in kitchen etc.

Depends what im cooking. Kettle is on every 2 hrs to make the bairns milk.

It's used in different places for different things.
Ignore all the HD ready and full HD etc and just look for native resolution of 1920x1080.

One of the 'on a plate' generation. FAIL at doing his own research, then posts last Minute in a widely used forum to get an instant response.

If the TV has a resolution of 1920x1080 it will basically be 'Full HD'.
If the resolution is something other than that, normall 1366x720 or some plasma's have 1024x760, they are not 'Full HD' but they could be marketed as HD Ready, or even possibly that they can accept a Full HD signal.

Ok cool. It's not going to be used on any HD input anyway to be fair unless I plug my Xbox in which will be rare, so HD ready might not be bad then
