Well I've just bought a private reg from dvla, today the letter turned up that I need to fill in a send off. Got a couple of questions about it, what happens to the reg that is currently on the car, it says it gets withdrawn but what happens when I come to sell the car and I will want to keep my private reg, do I have to buy the original back if I don't apply to keep it? If I do have to apply to keep the original how much does that cost?
Also I can't find my mot certificate do I NEED to send it with it? As it says if applicable.
Finally do I need to ring my insurance and tell them about the change of reg?
Any help will be great

Your current reg is wqithdrawn or suspended, when you remove the personalised one, it reverts back to your old one.
You will need your MOT cert as it has your reg on it. It says applicable as if the vehicle was less than 3years old it wouldnt have one.
ANd yes, you need to inform your insurance conpany

Your not always guaranteed to get the original plate back. But 99% of the time you do get the original back

It's £80 fee to take the plate off the car and fund the fee to the next car and £25 to retain the plate certificate per year. If you don't put the plate on another car within that year its another £25 per year.

I dread to think how much mine has cost in the years swapping between cars. Just about to take it off my Astra now as I'll be selling that in the new year.

Ive spent more than the plate is worth on transfers. Not sure If I'll put it on the Fiesta to take it off again in a few months if i sell.

The last 2 cars i've bought I got the dealer to pay the transfer fees as part of the deal.

Given up with mine now.
Transferred it 5 or 6 times and its cost way more than the plate was bought for.
Sold the old car with it on and agreed that it would be transferred back to my new car if i paid it. Guy was being a nob about it so just left him with it.
He won't be able to sell it on for any more than what it would cost to transfer it to retention because its not a particularly desirable plate at all Cock.
