I after some advice off you lovely lot on which corsa i should go for for my xe conversion. Im mainly on the lookout for a 1.4 sport or even just a 1.4 16v 3 door. But there doesnt seem to be a lot about for my budget, upto about 300,as i only want it for a conversion im not after a minter, something with either no engine, blown engine or just blown headgasket, that sort of thing. there seems to be a lot more 1.2`s about but ive heard the ecu is in the engine bay, just wondering how hard it is to get around this and any other complications that you wouldnt get with say a 1.4

1.2 8v is easy to convert.

1.0 12v are harder due to wiring

It's gotta b 12 or 16v as I've prepared for it,want power steering so got the type 2 mount kit. I'm not really bothered about the actually fitting of the engine it's just the wiring,if it's not too hard to get around the problem of the ecu in the bay,il just look for a 1.2 as well then

12v is epas so would have to change steering setup anyway unless you want to keep it. The only difference with the type 2 kit is the chasis leg plate isnt it? So wouldnt really matter what shell you used

Yeah I need the type 2 kit if I want to keep the power steering so it'll just have to be a 16v then.

the only thing a type 2 mount kit allowas you to do is fit a 20xe into a type 2 shell, you will need another bracket to keep your powersteering

Yeah but isn't the ecu on 1.0 and 1.2 in the bay? And a c20xe ecu is usually found in the drivers footwell,I'm sure I've heard people talk about this being a bit harder to get around

I went for a 1.2 16v, because it's got EPAS, mount wish you already know. The wire colours are the same but as you said it's all in the bay. With no engine in the bay it ain't too hard, but it just takes a bit longer to sort out. You'll need a electric 1.4 8v speedo drive to get the speedo, and P/S to work but they aren't too hard to find in a scrap yard.

A old 8V type 1 is the easiest to convert but they tend to be very basic spec.

I like the SXI shell, because the hydraulic system on the Sport uses power from the engine, to power the steering. Also you need to fart about with the hoses.
