Gadget show came to my work last month to do some filming.

Just pulled this right off our work intranet

Military Air & Information - News Online
Gadget show to feature Typhoon helmet

On Christmas Eve, take a break from wrapping gifts and preparing the turkey and tune into

The Gadget Show on Channel 5 at 8pm.

On Saturday 24 December The Gadget Show will take a close up look at the ‘Helmet Mounted Symbology System’ on Typhoon as part of their feature on future technologies. Presenter Jon Bentley will highlight the helmet’s ‘look and shoot’ capability and how advances in technology have enabled a closer relationship between pilot and machine. The Channel 5 crew visited Warton for a full day of filming in October and interviewed MAI's chief test pilot Mark Bowman.

split-second decision-making.

Using the new helmet system, the pilot can now look at multiple targets, lock-on to them, and then, by voice-command, prioritise them. It’s a lightning-fast system to let the pilot look, lock-on, and fire.

The pilot can even do this when looking at targets over the shoulder – or at targets picked up by the radar which is directly underneath the floor of the aircraft.

This ‘look and shoot’ capability, married to a super-wide field of view gives the Typhoon pilot a 24hour all-weather field of vision.
