Back of my missus Cooper S is covered in rough black/brown spots that are really rough so tried getting it off today with a clay bar but it's a bloody nightmare, alot comes off but it's still quite rough. I am just using a medium clay with lube

Before:

After:

50/50 lol

Any better suggestions? The worst comes off but I can't get the clay bar into the tight areas

Something like Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover should do it.

are they iron filings? had those on my fiesta from when it was being transported on the trains.

if they're tar spots, i would get some tardis on them, or that stuff that turns purple, blukoo's brother uses it iirc.

Auto glym tar remover is good. Isnt tardis only available in big bottles?
Tip for autoglym is to put it in a spray bottle rather than the standard bottle

Was gonna say get some tar remover on it, failing that get some iron-x.
It's more than likely tar if they are black.
Iron deposits show orange on white paint because they start to rust.

Edit; You don't need to use that much clay either, when you get a new bar, split it in half or in 4's depending on size.
You get more use out of it that way.

I don't know what it is, some are black which came off fairly easily with the clay but the others are a browny colour & alot more solid

I'll get some tar remover on it tomorrow :-)

And yeah that was 1/3 of the claybar. I used more this time because I knew how dirty it would get

They look like iron filings, so tar remover won't work.

This works exactly the same as Iron X (apart from being a gel) and it's a lot cheaper.
Free delivery from PB too.

Sorry blukoo but...
http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/index.php/exterior-cleaning/ipa-co-polymer-fallout-removers/purple-rain-iron-decontamination-remover.html

Can't recommend that enough, just as good as iron-x and the decon gel but a bit cheaper

That's £9 for 500ml, it's £15 for 1L.

Once you add postage it'll be even more expensive.

Edit: You beat me to it

White cars always show all forms of decontamination far more than any other colour.

Will need to do 3 stages really to ensure it's all removed.

De-tar - Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover of Autosmart Tardis if you can get hold of it.

Metallic fallout - CarPro Iron X

Clay.

You may find a few very stubborn spots remain which will most likely machine polish out. I had a white Range Rover Sport last week that took 6 hours to de-contaminate the other day and still had a few marks that required machine polishing out

I did think it might need machine polishing, even with just doing the clay so far it's much better but I can't get in the corner bits with the clay bar, can't believe how pitted it is, hopefully once this is all done ill keep on top of it to prevent it happening again! Also going to need to remove the badges as its terrible around that area as you can't get to it. It's doing behind the boot strip etc, might just strip it all off one day and do it properly

Thanks Rich. And Ben no she doesn't that's why I can't see how it's got so bad & only on the back
