i have normal sky in my bedroom but if i buy a sky plus box off ebay and just plug it in will i be able to pause and record as normal or will sky need to activate it or something?

You also need 2 cables if you want to be able to watch 1 channel whilst recording another

Need to ring them up to get it activated on your viewing card. Mine works ok on one cable as I only record stuff when I'm out any way

you need to pay sky £10 per month per freeview box to record.
you will also need 2 feeds to record 1 chan and watch another.

Depends how old your dish/LNB is, some are 2, some are 4 and they do 8 way ones now too.
