Thinking of chopping in the 182 for something diesel and better built. Will probably sell it and then finance the rest.
I was originally thinking of getting a Ibiza Cupra or something, but im wanting something more comfy etc etc.
So, what would you have? Any owners of either? Models to miss?. Probably looking at a A3 1.9 Or 2.0. Or the 118D Or 120d.
They are looking around the same price ish, the 1 series look slightly cheeper though.
Also, how much are running costs these days. Mainly servicing and parts. Anything to look out for?

If you choose the A3 (I assume you mean the newer shape 8P) go for the 2.0tdi, comes in either 140/170bhp whereas the 1.9 is little over 100bhp. Later ones, post 2005 ish, have the bigger one piece grill and look a bit more modern, S-Line is the trim level to get if budget allows.

Had an A3 2.0 TDI 170 S-line. I'd have another, it drove nicely and it was reasonably quick especially after I had it remapped. I just prefer the look inside and out of them to the BMW.
It was £180 for a service at Audi and Michelin tyres were £180 each.

I had a new A3 TDI S-line and have just ordered a 123D M-Sport. Prefer the 1 Series coupe looks and interior. Audi never let me down and was a nice motor. Hatchback 120D's are nice. Are you looking for a S-Line or M-Sport models or just regular ones?

Erm, not sure which spec. I want a decent specced one but im not sure if i could push to a M or S-Line.
There seems to be alot more lower milage A3's than 1Series about.
Anyone got any guides on service intervals, cambelts etc etc? Or any decent forums for it.
I do like the 1 series, but have always wanted an A3.

Just had a look, and the 1 series coupe seems to be around the same price as the hatch :s
Not bad!
Also, the Audi's seem to reach 55mpg (2.0 - S-Line
Where as the BMW reaches over 60mpg (120d M-Sport)

Id go for a 120d m sport. Either 5 door or the coupe.
My sisters got a 118d and I took that to Liverpool and back. Averaged 59.9mpg on motorway at 70/80 all way. And then round town dropped to 56mpg. Hers is a 10 plate with that stop start bollocks.

I have owned both, and just sold this;
I enjoyed the 120d MSport alot better, but was short on creature comforts whereas the A3 was specified with most things.

120D for sure
Did 70k in mine - great fun to drive - loads out there with good spec
Try and get leather, xexons and the 18's 208 wheels
Great cars - A3 is a lovely car just not fun to drive

babybmw.net is a good site
Not sure on costs but service intervals tend be around 18k depending on how you drive it
Easily get 55mpg out them and driving it pretty hard
Ride is not the greatest due to run flats but I got 25k out of the rear tyres
