BTW if you want an OE diode there's one in the loom, PAS or aircon circuits I can't remember, it's down near the OS inner arch.

Not sure what spec it is, I just took a loom out the other day and was like WTF is a diode doing there.

Relay is the easiest way ffs.

And you can fasten it to your ally panel so no more extra wiring really.

That diode john posted would need to be fully insulated or it'd just short out, like in a box, shrinkwrapped etc.

I might just leave it I don't think its bad it lighting when the car turns the fan on would be handy to know its spinning

Double pole switch as Ian said . The light on the switch will obey illuminate when the switch is on . If you take ground to feed side , live from fan to load side, ground to feed side, then your only switching feed (as a load to fan) but switching ground over simply to illuminate switch . You could wire relay but above is easiest

What about the current draw on the switch and the ignition/starter live he's used? Fans use quite a bit, especially when starting, bit rough not using a relay tbh
