I have a TomTom One which is approximately 5 years, when I was updating the maps on the SD card today I discovered that it has Bluetooth functionality. Tried to get it to connect to my iPhone but it won't work, said something about some features missing or whatever - any ideas how I can get it to work?

iPhone doesn't support all of the bluetooth profiles from what i remember. Try a proper  mobile phone and see if it connects.....

i think the blue tooth is for it to get the internet from your phone, i got one of these the other day, wana send me the new maps , also cant get it to connect through bluetooth with my wildfire

I think I'll just stick to obtaining them online via the USB cable from the "shop" I frequent for new maps and speed camera info... 
Do new satnavs have WiFi capability or are they all just BT only?

You sure?
All of the TomTom's that i've used that had BT allowed you to use it as a handsfree kit, would seem a bit off if you couldn't with a TomTom One 
Edit - Yup, looks like you're right. The bluetooth is used for a data connection for TomTom Plus services according to the TomTom site; bit naff that.

Aye my old tomtom go could be used as a hands free kit and I'm sure it did data as well. I would think the one would be the same, don't think my iPhone 3G liked it though.

where from? mine still has the maps from 2005 or around then lol
