Hi all,
Been thinking of removing the power steering from the car, is it simply a case of removing the old rack and all the power steering pump and pipe etc and fitting a non power steering rack or would I have to change the collum as well?

Just the rack that needs changing. You have the choice of the standard manual rack or an EPS rack which is quicker (less turns lock-to-lock)

Actually, I'm forgetting, you need an altenator mount and altenator belt off a non-PAS X14XE as well, that's the more awkward one as non-PAS X14s aren't particularly common.

Yes, when he removes his power steering pump his current belt and tensioner will be useless and they didn't make X16s without PAS so he would need X14 non-PAS bits for the new belt route but obviously that's not an issue for him.

i've heard you can use the PAS rack without the rest of the PAS setup (just the rack with all the pipework removed)

you can but it will be extremely hard to turn, if youve ever driven a car with power steering thats not working youll notice its alot harder to turn that it would be if it just didnt have PAS

Thats because you are trying to work against the fluid, with no fluid it should be the same as a normal rack
