I wanted to get myself a sat nav as I'm crap with road maps or writing down directions.
My girlfriends mother lives in Northern France but we didn't plan a date to go there yet so wondered if it was possible to just buy a UK sat nav and download a Northern Europe map at a later date ?
E : Would you ever buy one second hand off ebay for example or it's best get one new ?

1, There isnt really a 'UK Sat Nav', a Sat Nav is a Sat Nav.
they generally only come with UK maps, which you can upgrade / buy european maps.
Cant see a reason not to buy on ebay.
