It'll be falling apart and it's got a small petrol engine, absolutely no reason to buy it.

Why? He isnt looking for one of those
Check the drainage pipe is clear under the passenger side scuttle panel. If it is blocked, your passenger will get wet feet.

For the money of what he's looking for he could have factory xenons, climate, half leather etc etc...
If its visible I know where my money would be.

Compare price against Renaulsport. I bought a 110k 52 plate 172 for £1675 last month. FSH, aircon, half leather / alcantara, 6 disc CD, xenons, alloys etc etc. We were looking at a smaller engined Clio as a runaround, but get so much more in a 172. Ok it costs more to insure and 3250 pa tax, but its worth it.

The point I was trying to get across before people started rolling eyes.

Door locks fail alot, immobilizer issues so best if the car has more than 1 key, starter motors fail alot too.
Speedo sensor in the gearbox fails all the time so no speedo = no recorded miles.
Rust inside petrol filler cap and rear arches rot away.

Fucking avoid, Renault POS.
Stupid fucking bonnet catches, that will break and let your bonnet smash your windscreen and roof to bits. Renault denying any blame until 4 years later when watchdog looked into it and the car has long since gone

Brilliant Cars.
Mind out for the sunroofs. Right fuckers to fix and make watertight... They rattle and squeak but are great on fuel.
Currently getting 42mpg out of my missus one. Just as cheap as my old Golf TDi to run.
