Just looking on eBay for some more accessories for my new camera (eos 1100d) but I don't know what does what

So, basically, does anyone have examples of what filters create what effects? I've googled and not really found anything like "polarising filter - image" which is what I'm after!

I'd highly recommend a circular polarising filter.
