it's a race though. if that was the case we'd never see any overtaking in races ever.
the ferrari is much slower so would've been expected to move out of the way.

The Ferrari was supposed to move as it was being lapped.the Ferrari driver has said he couldn't judge his speed and he was going to move.

Saw it yesterday live and tbh i think it's as the toyotas fault. Yes the Ferrari could have stayed over but the Toyota could of waited till after the corner.
Either way a huge impact for both and hence davidson broke his back in the process.

its a common misinterpretation of a blue flag but its actually the responsibility of the overtaking car to overtake in a safe way, the reason they are blue flagged is to tell them that there is a faster car behind them and to stay on their racing line so the faster car can predict where the slower car will be or will go making passing easier and safer.

Well thats bollocks
Alms = Blue Flag
This flag is shown to drivers when a faster driver is approaching them and trying to over take. Only lapped cars have to give way to a faster driver, if after being shown three blue flags they have still not done so they risk being penalised.

Hello James.
Only problem being that this is part of the le mans series which has different rules regarding blue flags.
It is the responsibility of the driver of the faster car to pass the slower car.
It is the responsibility of the driver of the slower car to stay on the racing line so that there can be no confusion over what a slower car will do when a faster car catches up to it.
Our resident GT race driver is correct.

That rule is from the alms ? Even if the acu have a diffrent take on it (like most things) its a rareity, not a common misconception

For 2 GT cars yes but for a LMP car no they have to take the ur line at full speed.
If he had waited till the straight after then it would of just been easier and they would of both gone a lot further.
And I am led to believe it is the responsibility of the faster car to go around the slower car. Le mans rules are different compared to most other racing series and in the usual French way odd.

Yep, to back up what was said earlier the GT cars do not have to move over and let the prototype cars past, it's down to the faster car to make the overtake safely. I think in this instance Davidson assumed the Ferrari had moved over but in reality the Ferrari driver didn't realise the Toyota was so close. You get these incidents every year in Le Mans though, last years were arguably even more spectacular.
