anyoine have any decent phrasebooks on their iphone, or any computer programs for helping leanr? Rosetta Stone etc?
Partly learniogn Italian with the help of colleagues and wanting to learn French (again lol) ahead of hopefully spending time in Paris next year

im considering the rosetta stone cds when i get chance.
most phone things i have seen seem pretty pointless they have like 20 phrases.

I was talking about this very subject with my brother in law's wife (she Colombian), she says it's better to just learn a language with an actual person that speaks it rather than trying to learn from a book or website etc.

yeah, the Italians at work are really helping and my potential new flatmate is Swiss who speaks French so will leverage her too

I've got Rosetta Stone, trying to learn french.
Pretty good software, but just hard trying to allocate time to sit down and do it regularly.

I tried one for Swiss-German. But you need to want to learn it, and my desire to isn't that great at the moment. so my concentration slips.

As said, better to spend time with native speakers.
A uni friend spent a year living in Paris and said you pick up the basics relatively quickly, as essentially you're forced to learn rather than mincing about in your own time attempting to learn the language. However he did say parisians are generally very arrogant, rude and selfish people and it almost made him move back.

I've got the 'Utalk' iPhone apps for Polish and Mandarin and there very useful.
You'll never learn a language with regulary speaking to a native, and that means everyday IMO of course
