I have a couple of canvases displayed and for sale in a local restaurant/café.

I went to collect one this morning as i'm donating it to a charity auction, but when took it off the wall I noticed someone has scribbled/scratched all over the bottom 1/4 of it. There's no way I'd consider selling, or donating that to an auction now so I'm going back at 6 to speak to the manager to see if he'll buy it and keep it.

Do you think the café should be obligated to buy it off me considering the damage happened on their premises?

i think theyll tellyou to do one, they cant be expected to keep an eye on it at alltimes.
unfortunately its the risk youve taken in displaying in a public place

Are they displaying them for free? If so then I don't think they should have to buy it.

No legal contract, they did you a favour by putting them up. Should have put them up in a more upmarket resaurant / cafe to avoid this happening.

No, i'm not paying for space. It was a deal I made with the manager to display and decorate the premises in return for a possible sale.

To be honest, I don't expect him to buy it, I just though i'd see what he says.

I might just have to risk cleaning/repairing it.
