Im getting a new car later off a mate, which has his private plate on. He isn't getting his replacement till Saturday.

I know that a form (V317 or something) has to be filled out, but what green slips/v5s need to be sent too?

Are you transferring it to another car straight away or putting it on retention?
When I did mine for retention last week I filled out the form and handed it in along with my v5 and then wait for the new mot and tax disc to be sent out along with a temporary certificate for the cars original reg so that plates can be made up.
For transferring to another car id assume its the same but the v5 for both cars will be sent away. Much easier going to a dvla office to do it if you can
