Between early and late XE/LET timing belt covers? or is it just a myth and they fit no matter what?

It's the bottom of the cover that has a different profile. Later ones are more 'angular' One won't fit the other.

i still think a late would fit on an early backing cover, although there would be gaps etc

They both fit, but getting a late cover off a early engine is a bitch, with the alterntor belt on.
