I've been presented with near enough every form of danger motorsport can throw at you, from being hit in the head with a small stone and requiring stitches to being clipped by a rally car. But this is just unreal.

Must have been outside the car tbh, the article is a bit vague about that point.

Unless of course NASCAR now uses convertibles.

He wasn't racing he was a spectator. It says other people were involved but weren't killed. They were stood next to the car when the lighting struck it. I assume the guy who died might have been touching the car.

Not necessarily. He could have been stood relatively close to the strike point. Lightening is fun like that.

I think they're treating it as a motorsport related death, seeing as it was within the confines of a NASCAR sanctioned track.
