Starting the car up from cold she throws out a bit of blue smoke, doesn't do it when driving and only does when cold. Its a 1.9 turbo diesel and has probably had the fueling upped wayyyy to much at some point in its life.
Would this be worn piston rings?

could be over fueling on cold start, valve stem seals, or turbo spindle seals, piston rings, blocked crank case breathers. showing its age abit.

Generally, blue smoke is oil.

Could well be over fueling on cold start as the fueling has been tinkered with, cheers for the pointers gives me a few things to check out
Engines for these are common as muck anyway so I'll probably just run it until it blows up

Over fuelling wont cause blue smoke.
Over fuelling would cause black smoke, blue is oil.

This I will be doing. There's 150k on the clocks so not much point throwing money at it. Can get an engine with 100k on it for about £150

unless its using execive amount of oil or not passing mot i wouldnt worry. probably stem seals or the cold start exses fuel causing the smoke.
