Have I not stated already that they'd be hit by a restocking/handling charge which is typically 15-20% of the purchase price BUT if cashflow is required as quickly as possible, it could be a lot easier to send back everything and lose 15-20% than to wait and hope someone buys it all and possibly break even.

Its mostly just business as normal. While there are 30%/20% off these sorts of sales have been appearing every so often on various departments.
Its only if its closed down will they start to flog off stuff cheaply.

Still need a load of people packing trucks, people to drive the trucks etc. if it was easier to just send everything back I'm sure they'd just do that

I popped into the one in Milton Keynes today. To be honest, it was proper dire with only 10% discount on the best items. That said, I did walk out with another Samsung LED 3d TV.

Worst car park ever. Takes about a year to get out of that place.

Were you referring to Milton Keynes in general as the "worst car park ever," or specifically Comet's customer parking facilities?

I'm after a Mini IPad at the moment as well as a 40" TV. Visited a Comet in Preston on Thursday between jobs - what a waste of my time! A PB Laptop i picked up from Aria for £260 was £400 including the 20% discount

Well they need retail staff to stay and sell everything.
At the moment they are trying to sell as they are having to pay the staff their notice. Once the staff are no longer employed selling stock cheaperwont be viable so they will return to manufactures as Rich said.

And are staff going to stay and sell the stuff if theres a chance they might not get paid to do it? yes if they dont get paid they can claim from the government but it takes ages.

Just been to Merry Hill (big shopping centre near me). They actually demolished the Comet building that used to stand next to Mothercare!

Used to look like this:

^^Probably a prime location and was snapped up by another retailer. No doubt Comet jumped at the chance of making a quick buck and shifted the stock to another store.

Nah, more likely story is that a stampede of chavs came in paid for everything, and took the rest.

Sounds like there's a fundamental error there.
I went to the Oxford shop today and it was as has been said already really, anything half decent has 10% off, anything with more than that is just random TV brackets etc. There was some stuff the with printed notices on it saying 'do not sell - property of *manufacturer*' So they're obviously able to send some stuff back.
Got myself a new TV stand with 30% off though, been meaning to get one for ages.
Numberwang!

Definately not, they're all on better pay than you and I put together.
