Very long post so I apologise!

Bought the car in August with a known fault, replaced the crankshaft sensor and all was good. Every so often, the car would hesitate, pulling away from junctions/onto roundabouts....suspected EGR valve and the bf "promised" to fix it!

Fast forward to October, driving home from work when the car cuts out at a set of lights, EML light came on just prior. Managed to get it going again but every time I slowed to a stop, it tried to die again. Only just got home without incident, tried to start it again on the drive and it just dies. If you rev the engine, it seems to keep it going, but as soon as you stop, it dies again.

We have spent the past month trying EVERYTHING, and are now at a total loss. We have changed....

MAF sensor
ICV
TPS
Blanked EGR

Tried removing sensors to see if the car runs without, O2 sensor and ICV have no result but TPS has intermittent results and MAF sensor disconnected will run but very lumpy and at about 800rpm.

All replaced sensors have been genuine so no problems there, EML flags intermittently and have had green flag out for a cheeky fault read ()
with no results.

No sign of air leak/hose splits.

If anyone has any ideas that we haven't tried then please help!

Cheers

have you checked for cracks in the exhaust manifold and cat? also there was a recall on these cars for updated software on the ecu for this problem you could check with your local dealer to see if it was ever done? when i got mine it had been done monthe prior to me getting it, was on 3rd owner then and had done 98000miles. idle control valve, a relay, software, cleaned throttle body and 1hrs labour all f.o.c.

Thanks dave. Did a quick Google but can't find anything to say this was the case but if you know first hand then that's interesting to know. Will pop into the local dealer tomorrow and see what they say, fingers eyes and toes crossed!

Yeah Kyle, it runs when the maf sensor is unplugged, but we have tried two different ones with no results. Hopefully getting it on another fault reader tomorrow so we shall see....

It may just be that the throttle body needs a clean. They get gunked up with oil from the breather and it causes the revs to drop off too much so that it stalls. Worth a try before you chuck anymore money at it.

if you remove the throttle to clean it also remove all the breather and vacum lines and clean them as they do tend to sludge up as mike said.

Had it on opcom over the weekend, no fault codes and no sign of any problems with anything, apart from the O2 sensor. Just changed it now and its still goosed. It was suggested the coil pack could be faulty or maybe slightly damp as its been stood for so long so thats next! Unless anyone else has any ideas?!
