Hello All, hope you can help me out.
Work 4 on 4 off nights as some people know. Basically every night when not on shift i seem to start falling asleep between half 8 and ten so then go to bed and fall asleep till about 4 then wide awake Thing is its getting annoying because one im missing out on programmes on tele and other things, the key hours wifey at home im asleep.
Any tips to combat this please?
Thanks

Spot the guy who doesn't work nights
Best way to do it for me is get to sleep as soon as you get in, but only for about 2 hours, 3 at the most then as Brett says, get up and keep busy. Worst thing you can do is watch tv or stare at a screen all day.

I've done nights and even worse than that, really bad shifts that changed every week.
I just had to make my sleep fit in with the rest of my day. Sometimes that involves staying up, sometimes getting too much sleep.
If you don't want to go to sleep at a certain time, going to bed definitely isn't the thing to do.

I think my worst pattern ever was:
Night, day off, night, day off, night, day off, night, night, day off
My body clock didn't know wtf was going on

Sorry i worded that a bit wrong, i do try and stay up but i think thats whats making things worse, as i try and fight it but in the end i end up waking up when everything has gone off lol and then go to bed and then sleep till about half 4 five then wide awake.

Go to bed as soon as you finish your shift mate. I've done the staying up thing but its brutal around the 24 hour mark and unless you're keeping yourself busy, you're not going to fight it.
A few hours in the morning after you finish will tide you over till normal bed time

Ouch
Best advice I can say then is keep busy, do something outside. I'm usually at football my first day off from nights so have plenty to keep me occupied

Maybe go to the doctors and see if it's an iron deficiency or something? When I do a 12 hour nightshift I get in and straight to bed at half 7, I'm up at 11 and can happily stay up til 2-3am playing the Xbox after that
