the 3.0 TDI seems to be less troublesome that the 2.0 TDI

Manual or auto? - be wary of manuals clutch and flywheel replacement is beyond rediculous pricewise (circa £2.5K at a main dealer)

Unexplained coolant loss is one to look for on the 3.0 - often caused by a faulty EGR Cooler - again ££

Watch out for creaking suspension on early ones - usually caused by bottom ball joints - not mega expensive, but anoying none the less.

Would advise a decent aftermarket warranty or purchase an approved used from a main dealer

Great car for motorway munching, especially if you get one with an auto box and adaptive cruise control.

Random question, do the back seats fold down?

Yes. They normally have a waterproof ski-sack integrated into the middle seat but I'd never recommend using it, they're almost impossible to fold back into the storage space.

Any reason why you're going for the TDI?

Sales manager at work has a 1.8T or 2.0T petrol version which does 42mpg and is £155p/a to tax!
