I think the point you missed is that they implied the range was more limited than it actually was.

Either way, anyone who mistakes Top Gear for journalism is a fool, so that part isn't the real issue.
The real issue is with a supposedly trustworthy news outlet fabricating a story to support their views and getting caught doing so.

the way its written seems very juvenile, surely the correct path is legal action with a public apology from the offendees

I don't see anything wrong with defending themselves? They've not lashed out at the journalist or the NYT? Merely stated facts.

Exactly what I was trying to point out, it just raises the bar for this petty back and forth of replies.

Act like a professional company ffs and sort it out properly.
