What's the deal with trade plates? I'm going to pick a car up which I don't have insurance for but my boss said I can use his trade plates and I'll be covered. I thought they only covered the trader to drive a car with no tax or MOT?
Will I be covered to drive a car with no insurance using trade plates?

Not covered for no MOT, and you'll need to be on the traders policy unless it's for everyone over a certain age etc

He's a sales man and he has the trade plates for people test driving cars so chances are that I would be covered then if I said I was test driving it. I was just a bit suspicious as everyone assumes that you can drive any car if you have trade plates

Car has to be M.O.Ted, you will have to be on the traders policy if not someone who is on the policy will have to be with you i.e test etc. some policys will let the customer go on test drive with no sales guy with them

Only cover tax, only for business use, not allowed to stop and go to the shops etc with them.
Can easily have them confiscated if you get caught mis using them

Think I'll just use a trailer to be on the safe side then, 60 mile trip so probably not worth the risk, ta.

They also have to be be registered with your traders . Your traders then have to cover customers for motor trade purposes . Police are clamping down on them I know a few that have had to produce with their plates

The amount of people who abuse trade plates and motor trade insurance policies is unreal (not that I'm saying you are btw, but your boss was obviously happy for you to!)
