This was just posted on another forum, i couldn't believe it, next we will have a lakeside bomb scare delivered to someones mum in the street by a random man whispering it in her ear or someone asking us not to buy petrol on a certain day
"Two traffic patrol officers from
Winchester LAC (Local
Area Command) were
involved in an unusual incident while checking for speeding motorists on the M3
Motorway. One of the officers used a hand-held radar device to check the speed
of a vehicle approaching over the crest of a hill, and was surprised when the
speed was recorded at over 800mph Their radar suddenly stopped working and the
officers were not able to reset it.
Just then a deafening roar over the
treetops revealed that the radar had in fact latched on to a Typhoon fighter jet which was engaged in a low-flying exercise over Wyong, approaching
from the sea
Back at police headquarters the Local Area Commander
fired off a stiff complaint to the RAF Liaison officer
Back came the reply in true laconic RAF
style:
'Thank
you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident.
You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Typhoon had
detected the presence of, and subsequently locked onto, your hostile radar
equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it. Furthermore, an
air-to-ground missile aboard the fully-armed aircraft had also automatically
locked onto your radar equipment.
Fortunately the pilot flying the Typhoon recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile
systems alert status, and was narrowly able to override the automated defense system before the missile, was launched and your hostile radar installation was
totally destroyed.
Thank you for your enquiry and have a nice day."

It seems to be doing the rounds on facebook too. I guess its for people who are a lot less internet than most people that peruse internet forums and hence havent seen it.

I would be very surprised if they were even allowed to do anywhere near 800mph at that sort of height in a civilian area under normal circumstances.

Thing is...if it was 800mph, then thats breaking the sound barrier - which they wouldn't do at a)low level and b)over land. The aircraft would also not 'automatically fire' ordnance. So its bollocks.
Plus, the first time i read it - a Tornado was involved and now its a Typhoon. hmm...

It would automatically detect a threat and respond to it. For a plain Doppler radar it may jam it, it may send back a false echo. More than likely, a crappy police radar gun wouldn't 'lock' onto a typhoon as it's radar cross section is way too small. Also, more importantly, no air-ground missiles are incorporated on the jet yet.
I have read this same story with a harrier, a tornado and now a typhoon.
I also seen the 'funny replies from aircraft mechanics' one not so long back doing the rounds again.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I honestly despair every time something like this gets reposted and shared all over Facebook. Usually followed up comments from equally retarded people they know such as "haha that's great" and "lol love it"
