I really cant see the point in this, I can only forsee a massive failure.
Surely, most phones have plenty of facebook integration, what more value/content could a 'facebook' phone add?
On top of that, it has a bodged version of Android

Surprised Ash didn't comment on that; it terms of design, it's closer to the iPhone than anything made by Samsung or any other manufacturer
Edit - If it's really cheap then i can see people buying it and flashing vanilla Android to it.

Am I missing something? I'm going by that mockup on the link above, which is just a very slightly photoshopped iPhone 
The description from those who have apparently seen it does sound like one.

If you read the same article from other sources, they all use different phones from different manufacturers

As said, phones have FB apps which can do the vast majority of things you can do on the website.

I wonder if you'll be limited to doing things over WiFi e.g. Facebook Messenger instead of SMS and Facetime instead of calling.

Windows Phone is no more integrated to Microsoft's services as is Android to Google's or iOS to Apple's.
But this is essentially a version of Android but integrated with Facebook services - i wouldn't be surprised if messaging, email and calling defaults to Facebook rather than your network. Similarly i imagine they've already got adverts lined up for the platform.
John/Bart - Quickly skimmed the articled and assumed that was a mockup of the actual phone But as you said, reading other articles makes it sound like it is a knock-off of the iPhone design.

lol, I didn't mention anywhere that I thought that mockup was the intended product, my last post was just stating the point for the other people who did

So it's basically just a launcher you download from the play store. Can't see many people bothering and those that do will bin it off after a few days.

Do like some of the UI design, especially the messaging interface, although i assumed they'd fork Android and customise it further (ie: default Android notifications) rather than creating what is essentially a new launcher, messaging and phone apps.
Either way, i won't be touching it with a barge pole.

From the sounds of it, the version supplied to partners (ie: HTC phone) is a fair bit more integrated into the OS than what will be offered in the 'app' (which appears to be a replacement launcher, phone and messaging app).

Android's launcher is the equivalent to iOS's springboard - so it handles the main home screen, widgets (to some extent), app drawer and various menus around the launcher - the launcher doesn't handle any of the core apps/services such as messaging, phone, email, settings, notifications etc.
Facebook haven't forked Android and released their own OS, rather they've just changed a few bits.
So the download version is essentially a replacement launcher app (already plenty of replacement launchers on the Play store), which is also bundled with a replacement messaging (+ phone i believe) app. Outside of this everything remains as it was before the installation.
The 'partner' version (ie - what is installed on the HTC Phone) is similar to the above, in that they replace the launcher and messaging app etc, but they also integrated further into the Android OS by changing some of the core apps/services like notifications.
