Are your brake calipers ok that`s an indication of seized calipers, sticking or cooked brake pads.

check the air feed for the servo. if its blew off or got a hole in you will have a hard pedal and no brakes.

Mine did this. It was the brake servo pipe that had a slight split in it.

So new discs with those pads and have you bedded the new pads in?did this problem start just after fitting the new pads?

not as yet bedded in warning light comin.g on as well now

When you fix the warning light wiring just make sure that a piston or slider hasn`t stuck in the caliper,
if you didn`t change the discs the pads will take longer to bed in and it is very easy to boil old brake fluid.

you can check the brake servo on assisted cars by pumping the brake with the engine off and then holding your foot on the brake pedal start the engine and you should feel the pedal drop.

if you have done this and still got hard pedal either the servo or the vacuum pipe to it are at fault. check the pipe first, listen for air leaks, hissing sound along the pipe. is it eml light on? if so it will most likley be an air leak.

No not the eml light the hand brake warning light come on when footbrake appiled. ta

hand brake warning lights are also used as low fluid level lights on most vauxhalls, have you checked your fluid?

Did you said that the brake pedal stayed hard when you started the engine,if so then you do have a servo fault or vacuum leak somewhere!as davegreen said with engine off pump the brake pedal till it goes hard and keeping it pressed start the engine.if it drops when you start the engine then it is ok but if it stays in the same place then you have a servo problem!
