That's the variable intake actuator housing - should have a 2 pin connector on it and held in by 2 or 3 bolts.

Causes misfires and all sorts if it's packed in. Can be picked up cheap enough on ebay

Yes all means the same thing

You will get horrible rattle and lumpy running/misfiring when it goes.

If you have an engine management light at the moment though it might be worth getting it read, but that part is a common issue with beemers. Good luck

Na mate, didn't think to ask. Can you get them cheaper?

I wasn't sure about going the used route since it's a part that can deteriorate over time and I didn't want any play in the flap at all, since I like my actuators like I like my women.
