He can't have any complaints when he looks back on his career. I would have done another season at PSG personally.

Shame he has a stupid voice as his career would make a brilliant film.

Quality player, will always be vastly under rated due to the fact he is fit and birds want to ride him.

Much, much more than a dead ball specialist as well which is what he's normally typecast as.

Far from being under rated, going by the reaction to his retirement I'd say slightly over rated.

Dont get me wrong, i think Becks is a lovely man, he had superstar status in the game yet still managed to balance that with been as down to earth as possible, he genuinely loved playing football and was proud to play for his country, thats a trait which I admire massively, especially is todays game. Compare him to someone like Wayne Rooney and its night and day. Hes a fantastic role model and should be applauded for the way he conducted himself on and off the pitch.

Purely on footballing basis though, a great footballer, rather than "one of the greats" for me.

The reaction to his retirement is because of his status as a sex symbol, the husband of a Spice Girl and an iconic Brit who tried to hype up soccer in America.

Of all the outpourings of well wishers the majority are not focussing on his ability and entirely on him as a person, which is a shame as he was fantastic.

Dont disagree with that but I've seen people describing him as one of the best footballers of all time

I agree we should let his off the field life or how he was as a person take away from what was a very talented footballer.

One of the best of all time is ridiculous.

One of the best of his generation sits better.

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candles burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Loveliness we've lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our nation's golden child
Even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you've brought us through the years

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candles burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed yourself
Where lives were torn apart

Goodbye England's rose
From the country lost
Without your soul who missed the wings of your compassion
More than you will ever know

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candles burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills

Your candle burned out long before your legend ever will
