You can't split the feed, need separate feeds from the LNB. (I know there are other distributed ways to do this before anyone says)

Not much you can do about it then if there was some technical reason that they could only have 1 feed.

Sounds like it might already be distributed throughout the flats and they've only ran 1 feed to each flat.

yeah theres a plate on the wall with ariel, phone socket, fm socket and satelite socket but there only 1 output for satelite. wasnt sure if because its a communal dish i might just be able to split of this feed into 2

Nope, would need an extra feed from where the feeds from the communal dish are then sent onwards to each flat.

like a scart/hdmi switch I reckon, one input to your tv, safe faffing about plugging a different one in each time, you just press a or b

edit; as said can't be done unless you buy an overpriced stacker/destacker thing. same problem with the flat I'm in now, i just download instead

when we got it installed Sky bloke said he would put a separate dish up if we phoned the landlord and had permission to drill into the wall and flat below. worth phoning up and finding out.

First one is a switcher, two inputs, one output, allows you switch between inputs - can't think why they'd have that unless they're also providing Virgin or another sat feed (different dish etc) to the properties.
Second is a splitter - have you multiple sat points in the flat?
Third is a amplifier with two outputs - would suggest you have multiple feeds in the flat.

Just out of interest, how are they all connected?
I suspect the feed into flat goes to the splitter, then to the switcher then to the amp; can't see why they'd do that though

Although you probably only have one feed into the flat anyway.
Can you not phone the landlord or building managers and inquire about getting a second feed into the flat?

ok, main cable comes in the splitter, then the left side goes to my tv, the right side goes to the isolation switch.
if i turn off the amplifier, nothing happens.

the "tv out" on the splitter goes to "tv in" on the amplifier. i cant follow all the cables that go into the trunking at the top, they disappear into the wall. i dont have any more satellite outputs in any other rooms.

Stacker/Destacker works like this
Skys feed is on say wavelenght of 800Mhz, thats why you need to lines.

The stack tacks in the two lines at 800, changes one to say 400 and the other 1200... they can now both share the same line.

The destack simply reverses this back to two wires.

I have been using one for nearly two years now because I was happy with my single wire setup, not drilling etc into the hse.
