I've always been on the against leaving all day side because my mums dog has her all day.

However, we've just got a lab and he's managed ok so far. He does get out most days with my mum letting him out anyway but he's getting used to it from the start and gets attention to make up for it when we come home.

GF is also a teacher so she's off half the year anyway.

I dont think they are, even if you are with them all day they will goto sleep in the day etc, i think that the idea they would be lonely is from people that havent had dogs, my parents think exactly the same, but my girlfriend has had dogs all her life and her parents worked full time for all of that, the dogs they've had have been unbelievably well treated and showed no signs of being bored/lonely

He is home!

Seems to be settling ok. He is seems a bit nervous of a few things at the moment but i can imagine its scary as he has never been in a home!

Nah we decided to keep his name as Dennis.

He is settling in fine. Was no issues last night. He went to bed about 11pm and didnt get off his bed till half 6 this morning to go out for a wee.
