Never really bothered doing a project thread for this as I never thought I'd own so long tbf, owned it 6 months now and have no intentions of selling at the minute, longest I've kept a car , came close to getting rid but it's still here!
Bought it with a few problems, as always, nothing serious although the temp gauge wasn't working so was a bit silly in a way as the L series diesel are known for head gaskets, but new temp sender and it hasn't over heated once.
Got a load of stick when I got it of course with it being a Rover, but people are changing there minds about it now and actually liking it lol, me included!
First pic I have of it
Was dog slow when I test drove it, turned out to be a burst boost hose which was an easy fix
Someones effort at blanking the EGR valve, why bother when the kits are only a few quid , that was replaced with a proper blanking kit.
Gave it a good clean, as you do
I got used to the car then and started playing with the engine to increase the performance, 110bhp gets a bit dull after a while.
Done a few common simple mods to liven things up a bit, witht he mods listed it's an estimated 150-160bhp based on other cars with the same mods, cost no more than £200 too.
SDi injectors
Boost increased
Decat exhaust with free flowing back box
EGR blank
Remapped ECU
With extra power theres always a downside though, this can happen when pushing too hard, I managed to do this twice
Had a trouble free month or 2 then so treated her to a wheel refurb, wheels always let it down as the paint was all peeling off, badly curbed etc, I knew mums spare bedroom would come in handy!
Then it was MOT time, turned out to be a nightmare to get through the test, bloody coilovers!
Failed 1st time for burst shock, sent into AVO to be refurbed
Failed a 2nd time, tester said theres no travel in the suspension
Put in for re-test day after, tester said the other testers head was uop his arse and it should have passed, but it failed for a 3rd time as it now had a broken spring
Rebuilt and passed 4th time around!
Then not too long after the test I had a meeting with a row of hedges
Done me a favour in a way as the front bumper always let it down anyway as it was riddled with chips.
Got it up to my mates garage and started fixing it up
Straightened
Skimmed
Bumper prepped
Nice and fresh
And just the most recent pics,

Thanks Chris, I've surprised myself how much I've time and money I've put into this one Chris, I'm more of the type that just buys a car and drives it but I've spent a small fortune on this. I never planned on keeping it so didn't really keep many pics etc, what I posted above probably isn't even half of the work I've put into it, been sorting loads of other things that wouldn't even be noticed.
Spent over a £100 alone trying to get the speedo to read correctly whcih still isn't sorted, upgraded all speakers etc, loads of new trim inside as it was a bit tatty, new badges handbrake cables, brakes and whatever else it's needed, all the minor things that add up but are quickly forgotton, I'll keep more of a log now though for my own reference plus some might find it interesting
Refitted my wind-deflectors today, the guy who done the tints specified that I leave them off for a few days until the glue dries properly, so got them back in.
Spent ages trawling scrapyards trying to find a foglight during the week, tried 4 or 5 althogether and not one was breaking a ZR , just by luck someone on .org forums was breaking one not to far away from me so took a run up today and I now have 2 fogs again

I loved that Astra, still regret selling it to this day, she could take the abuse no bother lol. tried to buy her back recently but the fella who got her off me sent her to banger racing ffs. Theres 1 other yellow td over here that I know, can;t mind the reg but you probably know it, has the intercooler sticking out the front bumper, it's meant to have a bad dose of tin worm though!
Get it screwed out lad, 5/10 mins does it lol

Actually really like this car haha. Im looking at that latest picture trying to suggest something to do to it but I can't really see anything that i'd change.
Whats next for it? More work under the bonnet or you got something else planned?

pow Dont think I've ever heard you say anything positive about any of my cars
Cheers Luke, I've got loads of ideas running round in my head that I'd like to do at somepoint, nothing drastic just some nice subtle changes, the MG leather is horrible imo and looks terrible so that's something I want to address in the future, theres a nice alcantara interior that came in some ZR's but finding a good condition set is tough as there notorious for wearing badly.
Like this , also came in grey and blue, I'd settle for any!
More mods under the bonnet will be happening for sure, already got a polished stainless steel turbo outlet pipe ordered to replace the standard restrictive one, gains won't be massive but is fairly noticeable I believe, would also like to fit a FMIC at some point. After that performance mods are fairly restricted unless you have deep pockets and want to get serious.
Got some new genuine mats delivered today, smartens the interior up nicely!
And then gave it another wash , have to wash every 2 days usually as the back gets caked in reek, white car and smokey diesel isn't the best combo lol
Mum doing her bit
