I thought it was an impossibility but I'm watching a storm that isn't too far away, yet after one huge thunderbolt about 6 seconds after a bolt of lightning, there was 3 or 4 bolts without any thunder at all?

How far away does it have to be for you to see it but not hear?

A quick google suggests it's called heat lightening. The thunder is refracted or very far away (15 miles) which is why you can't hear it.

This appeared quite close, could see the forks, normally if it's far I only see the flashes, like sheet lightning. There were some flashes with thunder but maybe 2 flashes in 5.

Players only love you when they're playing though pete
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Most ground strikes start with an upwards spike initially
