Heard about this on the radio. They had a bloke from the FBU saying he hopes the firemen down tools at 1830 and go on strike, regardless of the state of the fire.

If that happens, they should be sacked.

Agree. Imagine a paramedic or surgeon just leaving a patient at a time because they're going on strike.
Leaving the fire could have similar serious consequences.

They plan to leave at 6.30, when the people covering emergency work start

- I'm pretty sure they won't just down tools at 1830

What happen at 6.30? Whats the point of a strike if they dont do it? Thought the army just take over and makes no difference

'emergency crews' take over, but they most likely won't have the experience that the proper fire crew have.
Also, changing over shifts when theres a rather large fire such as this can cause problems in itself.

So its still being tackled then, I had the image of them just downing tools and walking off.
Fair enough. Still think they should finish the job their own before striking though

I cant imagine them downing tools mid firefight, it'll be a huge risk to public safety and a very irresponsible thing to do, which I think someone could be held liable for.

Don't they get enough . I know two firemen and they both have it very good . In my opinion they should be given two options , carry on as it is and be grateful of the job or leave . I bet there isn't one that would leave
