my son has a corsa 1998/99 1.0 GLS and his EML came on last night and the speedo started to flcker up and down when stationary, since then the speedo is ok but the EML is constantly on. We searched the forums and found the paperclip test however when bridged across 5 & 6 and instructions followed, nothing happens the EML remains on. He has noticed there is no metal connection in one of the ports of not sure whether it was port 5 or 6. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

You can't paperclip a 1 litre.
Need a proper code reader on it.
Never heard of the speedo moving while stationary. You do have a digital transducer in that car so it may be to do with that. Code reader will hopefully shed more light on it.

£20-£50 to read fault codes normally.
Where abouts are you? Someone may know a good/cheap local place.

Based in Ashton-in-Makerfield, my son has told me when his engine was running, and the car stationary, he had his interior light on and as the speedo moved the interior light was brightening and dimming, could this be something to do with the alternator?

Thanks guys, just wanted to let you know that my son seems to have fixed it. He disconnected the air mass sensor and cleaned it with thinner, now it seems to be working fine, no EML on dash for the time being, fingers crossed.

Speedo flicker may be an unrelated issue then. Hopefully won't return.
