Noises of him eating made me rage
Anyone else get that? Or am I just a weirdo?
Bet the bowls taste of rubber.

So for those with kids who want to try this, please don't use proper chocolate like Galaxy... It doesn't melt in a bowl properly.
Shit cooking chocolate will be bought for attempt number2.

How did you melt it? In a makeshift bain marie?
Needs to be done softly softly catchy monkey - try and melt it too quickly it turns into a goopy mess.

Pan of simmering water with a metal bowl over the too and the chocolate thrown in. It just wouldn't melt.

Galaxy is shite chocolate anyway and you don't want cooking chocolate as it's too bitter; better off with M&S own brand, Lindt or Lidl do some that's pretty damn good (basically anything with high coco content).
And as mentioned - bain marie, glass bowl, making sure water isnt touching the bottom and do it slowly on low heat.

You won't get that gloss that those bowls have without tempering it?
Edit: which in itself isn't as difficult as you'd expect.

Not overly difficult but you still need a decent thermometer and slab (or water bath) and there's still a knack to it.

Seems a great idea, makes some bowls out of chocolate and then put them on a plate. . .

attempt 2 tonight, the chocolate melted but you need an absolute fuck load of the stuff to coat the ballon. I also found that when you pop the ballon the tips of the "bowl" try to stick to the ballon and snap the edges. I'm not sure if thats because the chocolate hadn't enough time to set.

You can do it without both but it's a damn sight more difficult
